Open the “My Computer” or Windows Explorer(Windows+E).
Then Click the “Organize” tab on the top-left corner. and the Click “Folder and Search Options”.
Now the Folder Option window will open. Then Click “View” tab.
Make sure the option “Always show icons, Never thumbnails” was “Ticked” as below.
Click OK. That’s all You’ve DONE. !!
Conclusion:
Mostly Windows Explorer will Stopped working when we Handling the Images or other Media Folders. Because Some of the Image files might be Corrupted. So this method Fix the “Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working” for Sure.
If the above Method Didn’t worked for You Try this Method 2:
Method 2-Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working Perfect Solution FIX :
- Click Start, and type “cmd” in Search box.
- Once you saw cmd.exe, right-click cmd.exe, and then click “Run as administrator”.
- At the command prompt, type Sfc /scannow and then press ENTER.
This method is know as “Run System File Checker” to scan and check your files. Thats it.

Hi,
My problem is back again. I found out that if I restart my computer the problem reappears i.e. ‘Windows Explorer is restarting’ when I try to play an mp3 media file. An additional problem that I encountered is that when I try to run the ‘sfc/scannow’ I got a response ‘Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.’ Could you please help?

It seems that the first solution temporarily fixed the issue. Got the “…stopped working…” back after restarting.

Your Second ‘Fix’ worked for me-Thank you very much. My problem was that whenever I tried to play an mp3 file in Windows Media Player or any other Media Player the ‘error’ screen ‘Windows Explorer is Restarting’ would always come up and it was very annoying. Your help has solved my problem and you’ve made me a very happy man.

Thought it was the Windows Media Player causing it since I got the “Windows Explorer has stopped working….” message when I started using it. I previously had the Windows Photo Viewer as my default.
